Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Integrative Approach?

The integrative approach works holistically with mind, body and soul, integrating the following traditional strands of psychotherapy:

Psychodynamic - looking at how the past impacts on the present

Existential - exploring life’s purpose and meaning

Humanistic - unconditional positive regard for the client, expanding on the qualities already present

Gestalt – working with the body and what is happening in the moment

Transpersonal - rediscovering the soul nature, and seeing obstacles as gateways to change and growth.

What are Life scripts?

As a writer and lecturer in autobiography I encourage clients to look at the story of their lives so far, the script they live by, and how this can be re-written.

Is there any difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are terms that are often used interchangeably. While there are many similarities between the two, counselling tends to be shorter term work with the focus on resolving specific issues or crises, whereas psychotherapy is longer term, focusing on deeper rooted issues, with the aim of facilitating fundamental changes within the whole person.

Do you have a Code of Ethics?

I work to the code of ethics laid down by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have ongoing weekly supervision.
