Professional Qualifications
I have over 15 years experience as a therapist and counsellor.
it's very important that the therapist you are seeing is fully trained, qualified and registered. Such bodies protect you if you ever need to make a complaint against one of their members.
I am accredited and registered with the UKCP. which has strict criteria for the membership and registration of qualified psychotherapists, and I adhere to their codes of ethics. I hold a UKCP accredited Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This involved 5 years of training and many hours of client work in a variety of placements, including working with psychiatrists in a clinical setting. I also have honours degrees in Psychology and English.
I have had two previous careers as a writer and university lecturer in Creative Writing.
My teaching career revealed to me the therapeutic effects of autobiographical writing on my students, which evolved into an interest in the work of CG Jung, and on to training as a transpersonal psychotherapist, an approach which is closely allied to Jungian philosophy. In this way, encouraging creativity is part of my practice.
I have also taught workshops in "The Hero's Journey" as a means of discovering the myths of our own lives, and the scripts we live by.
